A few reference points. Everything below referring to f2.8 zooms and UK pricing. In Nikon F, the 70-200E is about 15% more than the 24-70E. The Z 24-70 launched in the UK at £2200 early 2019. Fell to £2000 after about 3 months, fell to about £1850 after 10months and has sporadically been available at ~£1600 on sale
This is why I had got the Tamron as I have the Nikon F4 and was wanting to go to 2.8. But the Nikon 70-200 f4 will focus much faster than the Tamron and works for in sharp images at every zoom range. Here is a few photos from the Nikon 70-200 F4 some from it on my Nikon Z6 and some on the D500.

The Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM Lens is compatible with the Sigma 1.4x EX DG and 2x EX DG Teleconverters . Aside a from one f-stop loss for each jump in focal length (1 and 2 stops respectively), the 70-200 shows some expected image degradation with the teleconverters. With the TCs, Sharpness and contrast show a decrease at wider apertures
Lenses like the Canon 85mm f/1.2, the Nikkor 135mm f/2 DC, and for many, myself included, the Nikkor 200mm f/2. It seems a strange lens to be a bit infatuated with because most of us have fast glass even at the 20mm mark, seeing as though almost all of us have a 70-200mm 2.8 in some shape or fashion. The 70-200s in almost all brands are
The extremely sparse design of the 70-180mm f/2.8 with no useful buttons, switches, or extra command dials is very off-putting. At least the build quality is good, but even then, I’d definitely trust Nikon’s 70-200mm f/2.8 S more in a monsoon. Clearly, image quality isn’t the only reason why Nikon’s f/2.8 S-line zooms cost significantly
I already own the 80-200 f2.8. An extremely nice lens, one of the best ever made by Nikon IMO. My main reason for getting a 70-200 f4 would be for the lighter weight, and the VR would be an asset as well. . .but without sacrificing the image quality the 80-200 2.8d delivers.
Autofocus speed and build quality is substantially better on the Nikon. Canon EF 70-200mm ƒ/2.8L IS USM ~$1,600. The Tamron is just slightly sharper than the Canon at ƒ/2.8, but stopping down to
Sharpness. On our Canon EOS-20D sub-frame test bed, the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 was a little soft wide open, but quickly improved as we stopped down. At f/4, it's extremely sharp from 70-135mm
The Lumix S Pro 70-200mm f/2.8 is a hefty lens, coming in at 3.46lbs. This is in part due to its 22 total elements (in 17 groups – including 1 aspherical, 3 extra-low dispersion, and 2 ultra
